Q. What is the Halton Run for Water?
A. The Halton Run For Water is a premier running and fundraising event that’s open to individuals of every age and ability. It consists of a 10K and 5K run, as well as a 3K Walk-With-Water.
Q. Who is organizing the Halton Run For Water?
A. The Halton Run for Water is being organized by a Water-For-Life, a local non-profit organization. Dan Dubreuil is the event organizer and a Director of Water-For-Life. Dan has lived in Burlington for the past 13 years and has been supporting clean water projects in the developing world for the past several years. A trip to Southern Ethiopia in the fall of 2008, plus the success of the 2009 Abbottsford Run for Water, helped fuel his desire to organize this annual fundraising event.
Q. How will the Halton Run For Water help people living in the developing world?
A. Participants in the Halton Run For Water will be asked to collect pledges and donations from friends and family to support their participation in Run For Water races.
Q. How will individual pledges and donations be used?
A. All individual pledges and donations collected for the 2011 Halton Run For Water will go directly to Hope International Development Agency.
Hope International will use the funds to bring clean water to the village of Morkisho in Southern Ethiopia. Funds will be used to tap a remote mountain spring and to pipe clean drinking water to access points throughout Morkisho so that villagers can start to build a healthy future for their families, free from persistent starvation and disease that a lack of clean water can cause.
Hope International is a Canadian non-profit organization based in Burnaby BC. Since 1975 Hope has raised over $200 Million dollars to help the poorest of the poor in over 25 developing countries. Over 94% of all funds raised by Hope are spent directly on development projects.
Q. How will the race registration and sponsorship fees be used?
A. All race registration and sponsorship fees will be used to underwrite the cost of running the event. The Run for Water is a non-profit event; all surplus fees will be forwarded to Hope International Development Agency in support of their efforts to bring clean water to the people of Gewada in Southern Ethiopia.
Q. Where will the event take place?
A. The 2011 Run for Water will take place in the village of Kilbride in Burlington (10 minutes north of Dundas Street and Brand Street), All races will start just outside of Kilbride Park, use local roads surrounding the park. and finsih just inside the park.
Q. Why a run?
A. Staging a high quality, premier road running race is a great way to draw a community together by getting involved in a fun, healthy and meaningful event. Between runners, volunteers, and spectators the event will draw thousands of people together to promote a healthy lifestyle and the chance to make a difference in the world.
Q. How can people get involved?
A. We have opportunities for everyone to be involved. If you're a runner, or if you'd like to become one, sign up for one of the runs and start training. You can use one of our training schedules on the website or plug into a Running Room clinic to get ready.
If you're not a runner, we'd love for you to get involved. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities which you can see on our website. This event needs the whole community behind it.
